Birth and Death Records and Certificates The Vital Records Section of the Vanderburgh County Health Department started keeping records in February 1882.  There are no records in Indiana before that time.  The Indiana State Department of Health in Indianapolis started keeping records in October 1907. Vanderburgh County birth and death records can be obtained from our office, on a walk in basis, Monday through Friday (except legal Holidays), 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Indiana requires an applicant requesting a birth certificate, whether by mail or in person, to show identification and proof of relationship. 

Certificate ID Requirements
